Anything (or anyone) who helps you live a calmer, lighter life is priceless. Maria Kondo , organizing guru du jour, is receiving a lot of press and praise for her “does this spark joy?” approach. People are swearing by her, but with a slightly glossy eyed Jonestown jubilation.
I remain a little wary. Just as there are a million books on the magical secret to losing weight, there are a growing number of organizing books that promise nirvana. Every person is different and so too is every approach to helping them bring their chaos to order.
Buy her book, by all means, it may help- I hope it does. But remember: just as binge shopping at The Container Store doesn’t make you more organized, it just means you have more containers- buying books about being organized is another book you probably don’t need cluttering your shelf.
